Shining at the Table — Our 2025 Grazing Collection Riesling Awarded 95 Points
Posted on November 05 2025,
We’re raising a glass to celebrate some exciting news from the nation’s capital — our 2025 Grazing Collection Riesling has been awarded 95 points at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge.
For our family, this award is a proud reminder of everything we love about Riesling and the Frankland River region that makes it so special.
A Wine That Reflects Its Place
Frankland River is one of those rare corners of Australia where Riesling truly thrives. The gravelly soils, cool nights, and long, gentle days coax out a natural acidity and purity that can’t be replicated anywhere else.
Our Grazing Collection Riesling is crafted to reflect that character — fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. It’s a wine made for the table, with citrus, green apple, and floral notes layered over that signature mineral backbone that makes Frankland River Rieslings so distinctive.
As the judges noted, it’s a food-friendly, energetic wine — refreshing yet complex, and an example of how approachable and elegant Western Australian Riesling can be.
A Winemaking Tradition, 50 Vintages in the Making
Riesling has been part of Alkoomi’s story since the very beginning. When Merv and Judy Lange first planted vines in the early 1970s, they recognised Frankland River’s potential for producing world-class Riesling — wines that could stand proudly alongside the great cool-climate examples of Europe.
Fifty vintages later, that legacy continues. Each harvest teaches us something new, but the heart of our winemaking remains unchanged: let the fruit speak for itself.
The 2025 vintage was no exception. The growing season brought mild conditions, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly. The result is a Riesling that balances freshness with depth — a true expression of the land and the people who tend it.
The Spirit of the Grazing Collection
The Grazing Collection celebrates the more relaxed side of Alkoomi — wines made for everyday enjoyment, shaped by the same care and craftsmanship as our premium releases.
It’s named for the original Alkoomi property, once a working sheep farm long before it became a vineyard. That sense of simplicity and connection to the land still runs through everything we do.
The 2025 Riesling embodies that spirit — generous, versatile, and unmistakably Frankland River. Whether shared over fresh local seafood, a summer picnic, or a long lunch among friends, it’s a wine that invites good company and easy conversation.
A Moment Worth Celebrating
Receiving 95 points at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge is a wonderful recognition of the team’s dedication — from the vineyard crew nurturing each vine to the winemaking team crafting the final blend.
It’s also a celebration of the community that has supported us for over five decades — those who’ve visited our cellar doors, stocked their fridges with Alkoomi, and shared our wines at their tables.
Awards are always an honour, but what matters most is the connection each bottle creates. Every pour is a piece of our story — one that began in a small corner of Frankland River and continues to grow, year after year.
